520 _aThe administration gets its authority not solely from the legal status enjoyed by it, this also emanates from the prestige and reputation of the people who run it. The civil services of the country earned the name and fame owing to the ability, integrity, dedication and a high sense of fair play among its ranks. Today the charisma and the power of civil servants are being eroded due to several factors. Political interference, judicial activism and rampant corruption have made dents on the armour of civil servants. This article discusses the issues and circumstances that have made the services vulnerable to such pulls and pressures. It is imperative that the members of civil service take the remedial measures themselves without waiting for government or judiciary to save them from further disgrace. - Reproduced.
