520 _aThis paper offers a glimpse of a variety of human rights violations in India. to begin with, the Constitutional provisions for protecting human rights have been traced, followed by a discussion on their strategic violations by the state, more specifically the army and the police. The injury inflicted by the militant organisations upon human rights has also been subjected to an analysis. The impact of globalisation on the status of human rights has been assessed through a study of social struggles, particularly by tribals in situations of their land alienation. A note has been taken of the positive role played by the Indian judicial system under the emerging scenario. Finally, a case is made by valuing human life by preventing any kind of violence, may it be by the state or by the extremists. - Reproduced.
