520 _aThis article discusses the need for developing a nationwide policy framework for promoting, regulating and sustaining public private partnerships (PPP) that have displayed vast potentials in providing large scale infrastructure and service projects to the Indian society, given the public sector's inability to provide them. It focuses on strategically positioning PPPs with sufficient planning, policy, legal and institutional frameworks, so that the continuing rapid economic growth can bring its benefits across the society without expanding the domains of Central and state governments. the article also highlights a few best practices on PPP from other countries that are applicable in the Indian context. It also underscores the importance of various supportive functions such as a data base on existing PPP projects and network governance needed for strong PPP. In conclusion, some policy guidelines are given to promote and sustain successful practices of PPP. - Reproduced.
