520 _aThe central research question which I address in this work is - why is development ethics a better way of approaching the crisis of development. I seek to answer this question by arguing that at the heart of the crisis of development is its incapacity to address the issue of human well being. As the issue of well being is closely linked with the question of `good'. It is pertinent that the question of `development as well being' is answered in the realm of ethics in general and in the emerging discipline of development ethics in particular. However, as there are many philosophical traditions that have approached the issue of `well being' in their own ways, the paper seeks to recapitulate some of the dominant approaces to the notion of well being-primarily the capability approach in particular, that has informed as well as contested the developmental project of the times. - Reproduced.
