| 520 | _aThe article traces, in brief, the evolution of bases of federal units from administrative expediency to ethnic identity in India. Such evolution is explained in the light of introduction of agents of modernization and of establishment and spread of democratic institutions in India. It points out how the provinces have evolved from composite composition to a single identity-based composition. It also demonstrates how the emergence of ethnic identities has disapproved the theories of assimilation and Marxism, process of regional integration and globalization, etc. The evolution of base of Indian federal units is still going on. Thus the Indian federalism with a plural society having several religions, languages, dialects, tribes, etc., is still in the process of evolution. - Reproduced. | ||
