520 _aIndia is on the path of urbanization. The country has been recording a tremendous economic growth. But at the same time number of population living below the line of poverty is increasing. The benefits of economic growth have not percolated to the extent it was expected. This has widen the gap between haves (a minority) and have-nots (majority of populations). Despite active government interventions, about one-third of urban population is bound to live an indecent human life. This is a cause major of concern. There is a need to relook the institutional framework at city level and also the programmes launched for the benefits of urban poor. - Reproduced.
