Whos managing whom - 23(1), Spring 1994, p.41-43

This aritce deals with employees who have a passive aggressive style and who is more an obstacde than an asses. Thus the manager's goal should be to maximize the performance and productivity of the employee, remembering that the manager connot change the employee's personality but can only change the dynamics of their working relationship. Given the nature of passive aggressiveness the exercise of authority will almost guarantee a negative response. However, proceeding with a sevice of cantion, operating on an experimental basis, and focussing on one performance issue at a time, the manager may be able to achieve some levels of improved performance. Behavioral improvement shoub be thought of as on onging goal
