People management reform in the Australian public service - 1996 - p.28-39 - Jan-Jun
The purpose of this paper is to describe the factors which have driven reform in the Australian Public Service (APS) in the last decade and to relate them in particular to the People Management Workshop topics for this seminar: (1) Rightsizing and Downsizing the Bureaucracy; (2) Development of Human Resource Management Strategies and Equal Employment Opportunities; (3) Public Unionism Trends and Employee Relations Issues; and (4) Promoting Ethics and Standards of Behavior in Government. While the overall philosophical framework of APS reform reflects Australia's history and geography, the pressures which have produced them are similar to those experience by public administration all over the world. - Reproduced
