| Summary, etc | Shirish B Patel commonly described as an engineer and urban planner passed away on 20 December 2024 at the age of 92. However, his interest went far beyond the conventional professional or academic boundaries of engineering and urban planning. He obviously had an interest in architecture but also in software development and energy-efficient solar cookers and energy-efficient steam cookers, which he had developed in collaboration with researchers at the Institute of Chemical Technology.1 Here, I limit myself to describing him as an urban thinker or an urbanist as calling him an urban planner would be too restrictive.- Reproduced https://www.epw.in/journal/2025/6/commentary/shirish-b-patel-1932-2024.html |
