Summary, etc. The enduring relevance of growth and progress of a society for addressing present and failure challenges can best be assessed through human development approach. More than half a century of planned development and an accelerated GDP growth in India has not been accompanied by a commensurate increase in the employment, eradication of poverty, disparities and deprivation. There has been a steady growth in the population but a lot is still left to be desired on ensuring health care and education for masses. In order to evaluate the state of human development in the country this article tries to assess the three basic parameters of human development, i.e., economic attainment or well being, education and health, in some detail. - Reproduced.
