Summary, etc. Corruption, though opposed in principle by the people, made people as part of the practice generated by the governance and administrative systems and facilitated by the political system in India from the level of federal government to local government. Quantum of corruption varies from federal government to regional governments and regional governments to local govenments. Of all the corrupt practices, grassroots level corruptipn destabilises the value system of the society and governance and the process of development. To overcome the above problem a systemic solution was found out and it was implemented through the creation of local governance constitutionally. How the newly created local governance tackled tackled Corruption is explained in this article based on the action research conducted in the rural areas. It is unequivocally proved that unless corruption is rooted out from the total system of governance and administration through a systematic effort and mass mobilisation it is very difficult to tackle it at the grassroot. But there is a possibility at the grassroots level provided there is a committed and strong leadership at the helm of affairs in governance to wage a relentless struggle against corruption. - Reproduced.
