Indian Journal of Public AdministrationSummary: Taking constantly declining conviction rate as a serious negative indicator of enforcement of law and orders in India, the authors take an analytical look at Indian Criminal Justice System. Finding the system accused-oriented (instead of being victim-oriented as borne out by illustrations given by them, legal process time-consuming, investigation methods faulty, and police-prosecution coordination lacking, they highlight its negative impact on our correctional system, which is getting reflected in overcrowding of jails and deleterious effects thereof.
