Skill development and entrepreneurship are complementary in maximising social and economic benefits. Start-up India is a major initiative that prepares our youth to take advantage of new opportunities through skilling and entrepreneurship. Launched in 2016, it gives much-desired impetus to the entrepreneurship environment in the country through motivation, simplification, funding support and industry–academia partnerships and incubation systems. This article focuses on the significance of industry–academia partnerships and incubation systems in higher education to spur start-ups, highlighting the role of public administration in the sustainability and strengthening of the country’s start-up ecosystem.
